Theatre Workshops in Chile: Helping children shine

Theatre can be a formative and therapeutic tool, which can contribute to the reparatory processes of vulnerable adolescents. In 2004, ONG Raices began implementation of drama workshops with the children that attend their Care Centre, who are survivors of sexual exploitation. The main objective for using drama workshops as part of the reparation process is to achieve catharsis and improve self-esteem through creating a space for games, creativity and beauty.

A Strong Youth Movement: Young people leading projects in Ukraine

Many children and youth around the world are affected by commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC). This crime touches almost every country of the world, including Ukraine. The most common manifestations of CSEC in Ukraine are child prostitution, child pornography and trafficking children for sexual purposes. According to official statistics from the Ministry of Interior of Ukraine, within a six-month period in 2008, there were 41 registered criminal cases of sexual relations with minors, 190 cases of seduction of children, eight cases involving children in prostitution and four cases of child pornography.

YMCA Drama performance to raise awareness on harms of CSEC in Thailand

The commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and trafficking in Thailand affects in particular, children from the north and north-east of Thailand. More recently, children of ethnic minorities and hill-tribes based in the north of Thailand and along the border have been the primary targets of the CSEC. The prostitution of children, child sex tourism and child pornography have become growing issues in the region where tourism and Information Technology (IT) based systems are rapidly increasing.

WAO-Afrique & Youth Partnership Project

WAO-Afrique is a regional NGO based in Lomé, the capital city of Togo, in Africa. The organisation was officially recognised in 1990 and is dedicated to promoting and protecting child rights. WAO-Afrique run projects related to child trafficking, child domestic abuse and the sexual exploitation of children and includes programs for creating awareness, training, legal assistance and advocacy.
