India: A YPP Peer Support Programme refresher training session involved 15 youths from drop-in centres and 10 from shelter homes. The training is necessary to ensure that there is a sufficient number of Peer Supporters available to maintain the programme, which is in the process of transitioning into shelters for Year III of the project.
Bangladesh: Twelve MoUs have been signed with shelters that have been selected to participate in the YPP Peer Support Programme. A training session for welfare providers was held on 21 and 22 March, and a refresher training session is also planned.
Nepal: The YPP Peer Support Programme is operational in 13 schools; seven in Kathmandu and six in the eastern region of the country. Topics addressed in the Peer Support Programme include CSEC, trafficking, HIV/AIDS, child rights, child labour, child abuse and the roles that youth can play in combating these issues. Some schools have begun conducting outreach to other schools, and each school involved in the programme has formed a YPP youth group comprising peer supporters and other interested students. Twelve shelter homes have been selected to participate in the Peer Support Programme: six run by Maiti Nepal and six run by other organisations. A three-day orientation was held for participating organisations. MoUs have been signed, and Peer Support activities are already being well-received in several shelters. Improving the environment of shelters is a key objective of this programme.

The workshop on plans for the proposed second phase of the project was especially important as this information and youth feedback was to be incorporated into a concept note for the project donors in London. Key components discussed included the YPP Team Structure, child protection, peer support, youth action research on CSEC and boys, HIV/AIDS and CSEC, advocacy and participatory monitoring and evaluation.
