The Child Prostitution and Trafficking
Prevention Project in Northern Thailand was established in 1998.
Originally operated by ECPAT International,
it is now a project of an all-Thai foundation:
The Foundation to End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking
of
Children for Sexual Purposes.
All activities of the project are managed
by the Foundation's Coordinating office, local grassroots NGOs are implementing
partners, a team from Chiang Mai University is the academic advisor and
ECPAT International continues to provide administrative and project management
support.
Specific objectives
of the project aim to:

Provide alternative choices to children
at risk of entering the sex trade, and their families

Educate children and parents about
child rights and how to prevent themselves/their children from being
sexually exploited

Empower children at risk of entering
the sex trade to enable them make good life choices

Integrate child rights in the school
curriculum

Support the development of the "hilltribe"
communities
-
Increase the knowledge of patterns,
actors, and trends of CSEC and trafficking in Northern Thailand
-
Raise awareness on sexual exploitation
of children and child rights in Northern Thailand, at all levels from
the province to the community
-
Strengthen and empower local networks
of NGOs, government agencies, community based organisations, as well
as children's groups, to combat CSEC
