Commitment to the Stockholm Agenda for Action: 28th August 1996
Lao PDR has not yet developed a National Plan of Action. However, the Government of Lao PDR reported to the Second World Congress Against Commercial Sexual Exploitation in Yokohama that it planned to develop one.
The government, with the cooperation of UNICEF Laos conducted research on the sexual exploitation of children in five provinces in Laos in 2001. The government stated that the information from the research would be used as a basis to develop a National Plan of Action for combating sexual exploitation of children in Lao PDR.
In December of 2002, a conference coordinated by UNICEF and the Lao Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare was held to begin the process of developing a national plan of action. Decisions were taken concerning who will be included in a steering committee, how it will operate and some of the content of the plan.
