Information Services

One important aspect of ECPAT's work is the dissemination of information on the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC). In addition to responding to the information needs of the ECPAT National and Affiliate Groups, the staff at the information and resource centre answer over twenty inquiries a week from journalists, governments, non governmental organizations, students and members of the general public.

As well as answering these requests, staff at ECPAT International are regularly invited by various organizations to speak about its work and campaigns.

Resource Centre

The ECPAT International Resource Centre has a collection of well over 1000 documents, videos and CD ROMs related to CSEC, including national and international legislation relevant to protecting children from sexual exploitation. The collection is professionally organized, catalogued and classified and is fully automated and searchable.

The ECPAT International Resource Centre is open to all who are interested in the subject. You may visit in person Mondays to Fridays, between 9:00am and 5pm. We are located at 328 Phayathai Road, Bangkok, Thailand. Alternatively, you may visit the Online Resource Centre.

The online visitor has access to basic information such as the title, author's name, publisher, and year of publication. In most cases this information will allow users to either locate these documents in their local library, university or bookstore or through the publishing company or organization. Additional information, such as a brief abstract, number of pages, and the ISBN is also available. In a limited number of cases, the document has been made available online with the permission of the author and/or publisher.

Please note: The bibliographic details provided are for reference only, it does not imply that ECPAT International is able to provide copies of all the documents contained in its database.

The Resource Centre also searches for and acquires new materials on CSEC. If you are aware of any publication or research which is currently not in our Resource Centre, we would appreciate knowing about it.

Database
ECPAT International has constructed an Online Database which contains information on the situation of child prostitution, child pornography and the trafficking of children for sexual purposes, as well as the actions undertaken to combat them and the organizations who are active in this issue.

News Clippings
Another important aspect of ECPAT's work is the monitoring of national and international newspapers and journals. A task of the Information and Resource Centre, therefore, is to maintain a collection of articles that have appeared over the years. This allows us to track global trends and events, as well as to monitor the way the media reacts and responds to the issue. This task has been carried out by the international office for a number of years, and since 1999 selected articles have been made available from the Online News Desk. These articles are updated on a regular bases.

Publications/Newsletter

The ECPAT International Secretariat and ECPAT groups also publish reports, booklets and brochures as vital awareness raising and lobbying tools. Reflecting the international scope of ECPAT's membership and work, many of these materials are now published in several languages (e.g. Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic and Japanese), in addition to English. The majority of these publications are available electronically through the Online Resource Centre or relevant project pages.

In March, 1991 ECPAT produced its first Newsletter to announce the launch of the campaign. The International office has continued to publish this newsletter four times a year as a means to provide information on new developments and record the progress of the fight to eliminate commercial sexual exploitation of children. Since January 1999, all issues of the ECPAT International Newsletter have been available online. You may subscribe to a mailing list to receive a notification with summaries of articles when a new issue of the newsletter is released. Send an email to <newsletter-request@ecpat.net> with the text "SUBSCRIBE" in the body of the message or click here to create a request email.
