Two-year Global Campaign Launched for Universal Ratification of Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

A two-year global campaign aimed at ratifying the Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) around the world by 2012 - the year of the 10th anniversary of their entry into force - was launched at the UN in New York.

The Ministry of Social Development and Security and Anti-Human Trafficking Department organised an event on June 4 in Bangkok with approximately 200+ stakeholders and participants to celebrate Anti-Human Trafficking Day in Thailand.

Held at Rama Garden Hotel's Convention Centre, it was broadcast live on national television to raise awareness about human trafficking and the 1300 hotline. The Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People campaign organized a display and public relations act in preparation for the campaign that will be launched in Thailand in September. The display was a popular stop for visitors interested to learn about the campaign: visitors were curious as to why a cosmetics company such as The Body Shop would take up this campaign issue in partnership with ECPAT. The campaign's logo was greatly popular, many requests were received for the decorative signs. A follow-on public event will take place on June 10th in Bangkok.

______________
The campaign is a joint initiative of the special Representative on Violence against children (SRSG-VAC), the Special Representative on Children and Armed Conflict (SRSG-CAAC), in collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), UNICEF, the Committee on the Rights of the Child and the special Rapporteur on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography. The campaign was launched on May 25, 2010, to honour the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Optional Protocols.
