Launched in August 2009, during its first year the campaign aimed to educate the public and raise awareness about child sex trafficking while raising funds for programmes that reach child sex trafficking victims and vulnerable children.

Extensive public education and training on child sex trafficking was organized worldwide and information material, reports and videos on the issues were distributed widely. The Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream was advertised in news sources and support was mobilised fro, government officials and celebrities to back the campaign. Youth were involved in various activities and the campaign received extensive media coverage.

With 400,000 units sold worldwide, Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream sales exceeded the expected target by 70%.

For each country, the profits from the purchase of the campaign product are going directly to providing immediate support to children who have been affected by sex trafficking and towards prevention, awareness-raising and other programmes implemented by ECPAT worldwide.

Funds from the campaign will go towards different types of anti-child trafficking initiatives, for example:
Creating shelters especially for child victims of trafficking that offer specialised care services; and capacity training for care-givers on specialised care services and rehabilitation that child victims of commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking require;

Empowering child survivors and at-risk youth by having them conduct advocacy activities against child trafficking;

Training of law enforcement officials and other relevant stakeholders on how to identify child victims of trafficking and utilising a child-friendly approach;

Creating a national referral mechanism and helpline for children;

Lobbying for new legislation and laws to protect child victims of trafficking;

Research on internal/domestic child trafficking.
