THE ECPAT INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The key objective of ECPAT’s internship programme is to create learning opportunities for early career/young professionals who have a demonstrated interested in child rights and child protection work but have had limited practical experience in working in the area as it relates to CSEC.

The ECPAT International Internship programme provides structured and guided support for meeting identified learning objectives which can be achieved in the context of ECPAT’s ongoing work. Thus interns are selected based on a match between the organisational programme needs and their learning interests. As the primary mandate of ECPAT is to support action against CSEC, the internship programme reflects this orientation through a learning-in-action or an experiential learning approach which means that the learning of each intern will take place largely through direct involvement in the work agendas and activities of the ECPAT Secretariat.

INTERNING WITH ECPAT

The assignments

Interns assist regional and thematic programmes of ECPAT International Secretariat on the monitoring of the implementation of the Stockholm Agenda for Action. Their work includes but is not limited to research, collection and analysis of information on country situations with regard to CSEC. Besides this, interns may also be assigned to contribute to other programmes, such as legal protection, youth participation, production of publications and information materials, etc.

Duration

Interns work normally for a period of six months and their assignments may be extended up to one year. Some interns came for less than six months but preferably not less than three.

Profile of the Interns

Most of ECPAT interns are university graduates with academic backgrounds in law, social science, social work, human rights, political science.

Other qualifications and skills that are considered of advantage include strong research and writing skills; ability to synthesize large amounts of information into concise formats; experience in working with children; experience in working with human rights and social development issues specifically as these relate to the rights of children.

Interns came from various countries and apart from Englishm, many of them have French, Spanish, Thai or other language capabilities which are very helpful in the work of ECPAT International.

Applications

Though ECPAT publishes current internship vacancies on its website or other recruitment channels, both advertised and unsolicited applications are welcome. Individuals interested in interning with ECPAT should follow the instructions given in the announcement or email a motivation letter and curriculum vitae to vacancy@ecpat.net. ECPAT would screen each application carefully but due to limited resources only short listed candidates will be invited to undergo a recruitment process. Applicants should also be aware that the internship opportunities at a time are limited and they need to apply well in advance of their intended assignment period.

Internship Conditions

A modest stipend is made available to interns who are not sponsored by other organizations or institutions. Due to limited resources all costs related to the internship, i.e. travel, passport, visa or living in Bangkok, are to borne by the intern or his/her sponsoring institution or organisation.
