The International Secretariat coordinates the global work of ECPAT International and is based in Bangkok, Thailand. The Secretariat works to design projects and programmes to facilitate a greater range of network initiatives to make the greatest impact on combating Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC). The Secretariat is also primarily responsible for expanding the ECPAT network and monitoring the implementation of the Agenda for Action against CSEC.
A key objective of the ECPAT Secretariat is to enhance opportunities for ECPAT groups and key stakeholders to develop skills and knowledge through specialised training and workshops conducted in different countries. Regional Network Resource Exchange (RNRE) workshops enable network members to share information through structured training and discussions and to supplement their understanding on areas of practice and on the latest developments regarding action to combat CSEC, in order to plan and strengthen operational linkages for collaborative action in their regions. For example, workshops have provided: inputs related to child and youth participation, particularly on practical measures to support children’s active participation in local ECPAT initiatives; measures for prevention of child sex tourism and involvement of the private sector; and adaptation of methods and practices for care and protection of children affected by CSEC, based upon child rights concepts.
The Secretariat also represents the ECPAT movement on the global stage, ensuring that the inputs from the work of the network inform all international initiatives that are working for the rights of children.
